I have a very unpopular opinion in my fandom and I'm tired of pretending I don't.
I do not like the Vampire Chronicles AMC show. Before I go along with my reasoning, I would like to make a few disclaimers first. #1: this has nothing to do with the race of the characters. Honestly, if that really does bother you that much, this site likely isn't the place for you. I also am not saying this to hate on any writers, actors, or fans. It's just a personal opinon of mine. Most people seem to like it, so they must be doing something right. #2, I am trying hard to be polite in ths discussion. I've noticed that these kind of debates tend to spark a lot of hatred in people so I'd like to be civil and keep that to a minimum. #3, I am aware that the original author of the books helped work on the first season. While I respect her choices with the show, that does not mean that I have to like it. I only watched a half an episode of this show after reading the first book. I thought it was so unwatchable I couldn't continue with it. I'd also like to add because I haven't seen much of it some things I say might not be quite accurate. I don't want to continue trying to watch it because I know I won't like it an it would be a waste of my time. There are three main reasons as to why the show didn't resonate with me as a fan: modernization, sanitization/character assassination, and fandom pandering. Note that, once again, NONE of these factors have anything to do with the race if the characters. The modernization of the series took me out so many times while watching. Characters frequently use "gen z slang" and refrence modern celebrities and the internet. The covid pandemic is brought up (this instantly makes something unwatchable to me) and everything is painfully "trendy." The reason this bothers me so much is mainly because of the associations I have with these characters. Lestat fell in love with the 80s because of how flashy and glamorous yet flawed it was, much like his own time. What is so interesting about the 2020s? what would make someone want to wake up from a decades long sleep in the 2020s? Labubus?? Gracie Abrams?? Dubai chocolate?? The 2020s is such a vapid, souless part of history. It's honestly been the most boring decade yet imo. Why set these timeless immortal characters in a world with cryptocurrency and NFTS? Lestat's rebellion and over the top personality is a direct refrence to the decadance of the 1980s rockstar culture. I don't understand how this could possibly be removed without keeping the themes intact. The second reason I couldn't get into the series is the sanitization of the characters. I think the show tries too hard to make the characters out to be black and white when in the original text they were so much more complicated and interesting. Why is Louis so extroverted?? Why can Lestat do no wrong?? Why is Gabrielle pure evil with no redeeming traits?? Why is Armand just a quirky drama queen now?? none of this was in the books. It was so much more nuanced. Lestat and Gabrielle were both enablers of eachother's behavior. Why are we decding to erase that? And also, why is Gabrielle's character so sexual now?? She was certianly a sick minded induvidual in the book but the extremely sexualized undertones were never present in the book. The most she did was kiss. Why does she not crossdress anymore? I don't want to be too nitpicky but why do this to one of the only women characters. Why take away her gender-non-conformity and replace it with sexuality? why is it that sex is the only way women can be liberated in fiction? It's weird, I'm sorry, and I don't like it. The last reasoning is that the show doesn't feel like it's made for gothic horror fans. It feels like it's made for people who like superwholock and good omens. Nothing wrong with that crowd at all, but that type of series is very different. I've been seeing a complaint about the books (and to a lesser extent the 1994 film) (NOTE: This is not about the Queen Of The Damned Film. I do not like that they made Nicki a woman in that - duh. I'm the #1 Nickistat lover :D) that it "wasn't a queer narrative."
I'm sorry guys, but if you need to see two guys fucking on screen to know that they're gay, this might be an issue with your critical thinking skills and not the thing your'e consuming. Idk I'm not gay I don't really want to speak on anyone else's behalf but I can't be the only person who thinks that's a crazy thing to say. Why do you equate gay people with sex only. who are you?? the CEO of gay people??? this is what I meant when I feel like this show is fandom pandering- it feels like it wants to be more of a romantic drama than a horror, which takes out a lot of the personality it had for me. I can also understand that for some people, this is what they want out of a series, and that's okay, it's just not my thing.
Before I go I'd like to add my last stupid petty nitpick. I DON'T LIKE SAM REID LESTAT yes I know this one is so dumb I have nothing against him or anything he just. Doesn't look anything like how I imagined Lestat. I know this is so stupid this is probably the dumbest criticism ever I just thought I'd add it because 😠well because it's a big reason why I didn't enjoy it. I didn't know who he was supposed to be when I first saw him lmao. Idk I think I'm just autistic or something and the books are my hyperfix so ya ig I'd no really fw it but yeah whatever. Reminder that this isn't meant to target anyone in particular- I'm glad that you could find joy in something I couldn't. I just felt like saying something bc I was tired of holding it in.🥀 🥀

Where I've been + big Toshi wins!!
I know I don't post much anymore but I finally have time since I'm done with uni for now. I've been volunteering at a locak museum, and I've also been getting into 80s fashion. I was able to get my hands on this vintage shirt and skirt while looking at yard sales and charity shops. I got the hat as a gift, and collected all the pins on the jacket over time (the jacket isn't vintage, I already had it) - My main inspo for this style is def Molly Ringwald, if it wasn't obvious, lol. I try to combine all the different styles I like sometimes, I think people try to hard to fit into one specific "aesthetic" and I think it's just better to wear what you like. I hope i still look gyaru, though. I think I do... I also got the books from yard sales or my mom. I've been trying to start reading more. Last book I read on my own was in 2024, then in 2025 I got into the Vampire Chronicles series, and I've been trying to find something else to capture my interest since then. (My favorite genres are historical fiction and horror btw!) I've been trying so hard to find good historical romance novels but they're *ALL* regency/victorian and I'm looking for 18th century :,) The Paris book is just photography, but it was 50 cents and I thought it would help with drawing. The Amadeus CD was a huge win for me, I got it for 50 cents at a charity shop. I've been looking for one for months!
If you don't know, my favorite character in the Vampire Chronicles is Lestat. I love him sm, and I wanted to show off my Lestat collection- The big pillow is so funny! My boyfriend got it custom made for me lol. I made the figure and the itabag myself. I'm sad they'res so little merch of him that's not from the show (Because I haven't seen it -_-)... I guess I have to make it myself...
the last thing I wanted to mention is that I turned my basement into an art studio!! it was empty for years, and I would really only go there when I was having friends over before- I'm glad I actually made it look good now so the people I invite don't have to sit in an empty room. pls ignore how messy it is!! my most recent project is a new sketchbook that I'm decorating- I want to make a decoden sketchbook again since I have a LOT of new deco charms...

recent thrift finds
Hello lovlies!! I haven't written in a long time so I thought I'd share some interesting things I've bought recently. I started a collection of these small rococo statues and a few other similar items, most of these ones were accuumulated over 10 years but a couple of them are new. A lot of these were Christmas gifts from family. Also have some books and dvds in the center!!
Since I didn't have any more room for big ones, I snagged this little guy- Kinda looks like my oc Rossi? I liked his hat... + the weird mask thing, I really like these kind of masks and it's been one of my thrift grail items for a while. I got really lucky ig O_o
last I got this hat, necklace, and these figures- I can't believe I found authentic Cutey Honey figures at a thrift store!! Not a very popular character, but I love her, so I was happy to find them. I wish they had her android form with the red hair though, that would have been cool. But I'm greatful to find them at all tbh. The owner referred to the hat as a "Lizzie McGuire Hat" which isn't too far off, lol. Also a pretty big find since I love these kind of hats.
that's basically all I have to add, if I think of anything else interesting I'll add it to my nest post :P
